Pack 528 Joining and Membership Information
Thank you for your interest in Pack 528! Below is some basic information about what you and your scout can expect with our pack. At any time, please feel free to click the “Request Information” link to get into the Scouting database or “Join Pack 528” to submit your application.
We are a part of Circle Ten Council, which covers North Texas from Dallas County east to Mount Pleasant and up to Idabel, OK. Circle Ten supports our Pack through programming, resources, and camps. They have good information about the Cub Scout experience here: https://c10bsa.org/join-pack-528
We meet on Tuesday nights at 7pm at Shannon Elementary in Rockwall. Meetings are usually grade-level specific (“dens”), and we have an all pack meeting the last Tuesday of the month to cover announcements, recognition and awards, and showcase our scouts. We plan at least 2 family campouts each year (Fall and Spring), run a Pinewood Derby in January, and hold a Blue and Gold banquet in February. Other events, including hikes, conservation projects, etc, are planned throughout the year. These events are all included in our annual dues (more information below), and much of the dues expense can be covered through popcorn sales in the fall. Extra events include Circle Ten programs, summer camp, and other special events. Our calendar is on our main page.
Scouting is a family program, and in order for our scouts to get everything they can, it’s imperative that parents are involved. For younger scouts (K-3rd grade), parents should attend all meetings and activities with their scouts. Our older scouts (4th and 5th grade) are learning to become more independent, but parent involvement is still very much needed. In addition, all of our leaders and committee members are parents of scouts, and we need your support there as well. Our pack, through fundraising and dues collected, will pay the membership fees for our registered, trained leaders and committee members.
All members pay a 12-month national fee of $85. This annual registration fee covers insurance, national content and support, and our online tools for advancement, roster, and calendar. This amount is paid when you apply and every 12 months after to stay a member of Scouting.
For our pack to operate, we collect dues when a new scout joins and again at the beginning of each calendar year. The amount is set each year by the pack committee (made up of parents) based on our planned budget, and as noted above covers most of the annual expense required to run the program. Our goal is to limit out of pocket expense during the year to special activities and summer camp. The uniform amount listed below is generally the shirt, belt, hat, and basic patches (Circle Ten Council Strip, pack numerals, etc). The pack provides a neckerchief and slide upon joining the pack and paying dues. The prorations below are based on budgeted activities in the month.
